Body Positivity
Something very trendy and being discussed about more, and more is body positivity. For those of you who don’t know & haven’t seen the many instagram posts about this movement let me explain! Body positivity is a mission spread mostly by women- to embrace your body! No matter what size you wear, what you wear, and pushes us towards being not only comfortable but confident in our own skin.
A store I frequently shop at @aerie has created a brand like no other. In all promotional work, the girls modeling are unretouched. The girls are encouraged to be themselves. This means we see real humans: wrinkles, freckles, cellulite, and ROLLS!!!!! In addition to the embracing of natural girls and women, aerie fills their dressing rooms with notes of empowerment, and girl power posted on the mirrors. Let’s be real ladies- dressing rooms are the worst, but aerie has found a way to make it all a little better.
Anyway... surprisingly I am not here to be a #ad for aerie, but I am writing this because I think it’s really important for girls and women of any age to love who they are.
Your body is going to change throughout your life, and that’s kinda the cool part. When I was little I was told “you should eat more salads, so you can be skinny too.” The funny part is…. I didn’t think it was that bad- I just chose to not do that because let’s be real I hate salad.
In the course of my high school career my weight has fluctuated, and it wasn’t really about the food I was eating or my exercise, it was just how my body was. Lots of girls would say the same, and I know it’ll change in college again, and so on!
Our bodies don’t get enough credit, and tearing them down isn’t doing them justice. Instead of seeing your thighs as big, know that they are strong, and support you. Instead of seeing your arms as flabby, know they lift others up. Instead of seeing your feet as ugly, see them taking you towards your dreams. Bodies are beautiful at any size.
Here’s a challenge to all my ladies: RIGHT NOW think of one thing you love about yourself, and you will see how happy you can be by embracing who you are!
