Oxford, Mississippi
Honey, i'm home! About two weeks ago I traveled to The University of Mississippi AKA "Ole Miss." I went to the campus for my second visit to attend their dance team clinics, hosted by the Rebelettes! It was a super fun weekend seeing the campus again, dancing my booty off, and making new friends! Below you will find a day-to-day breakdown of my adventures in Oxford:)
Friday:
I left Friday morning, flying alone for the first time!! I was a little nervous, but O'hare is like a second home at this point, and was able to get through security, and find my gate quite easily! Once I landed, my brother John (who flew in from DC to meet me) picked me up in the rental car and we started our drive. To get to the university, you have to fly into Memphis, Tennessee and then drive about an hour and a half to Oxford. Once we were in Oxford, I had booked an Airbnb, which is like a rental condo for the weekend.....this is where it goes south. We went into the condo, and it was super HOT and dimly lit. We were able to handle that part, until we realized that the women who rented it, lived there full time, and was just away for the weekend. Super weird. When we went upstairs we found a normal bedroom, and then behind closed doors was a princess themed twin bed... meant for me to sleep in. NO WAY was I going to sleep in a stranger's daughter's bed. So John and I booked a hotel room, and rushed out! After settling into the hotel I went out to dinner with a now new friend, Blair. Blair was Miss Teen International 2016, and we bonded over pageants, Ole Miss, and everything else in between! It was super fun! Then it was off to catch some sleep before a busy Saturday!
Saturday:
The morning started at FIVE AM when we awoke to huge winds, and lots of rain. We found out there was a tornado and we took shelter in the lobby safety area. Super exciting way to start my morning! After an all clear, John and I went back up to our room and fell back asleep. After waking up for the second time, I got ready for my clinics (lots of hair and makeup) and we grabbed some food at a restaurant on the square. At the clinics we learned a hip hop, jazz, and fight song routine. I made two new friends, and got to really understand the collegiate level dance program! After clinics, John and I went shopping on the square, and then went back to the hotel to change for dinner! We got dinner at an Italian restaurant which was really good, and then went to see a movie at a theatre near our hotel. It was so much fun!
Sunday:
Today we packed up our suitcases and ate at the hotel breakfast buffet, and then hit the road. On our way to the airport, we stopped at the outlet malls and did some shopping (knowing us, it was surprisingly light shopping.) I bought a cute Kate Spade wallet, and aerie leggings, and John bought a new Coach wallet! We made it to the airport with plenty of time and enjoyed some "Moes" mexican food. I got on my flight and was back in the gloomy Chicago weather in no time! My parents took me to Portillos for dinner, and I was back home writing an english essay that night!
Ole Miss was great, and I see myself there in the future. I am super excited for what is to come, and I am glad I got to spend a weekend with my brother! Hotty Toddy!
